Fire Inspection Surveys Process
Consultation
A quote is generated based on information provided by the client, usually a fire strategy and/or floor plans highlighting door locations and door sets. Once the quote and deadline are agreed upon, work can commence.
Implementation
A detailed fire door survey will be conducted by one of our qualified surveyors. The team is accredited by IFC and enhanced DBS cleared with insurance.
Completion
The report will show any remedial work with recommendations which will be digitally stored. Global HSE Group will then be able to support you with any remedial work that needs to be carried out.
The Importance of Fire Door Inspections – Why do I need one?
Inspections of fire doors are not optional—they are a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Building owners or managers must ensure all fire doors are inspected and maintained regularly to avoid penalties and ensure occupant safety.
Failure to comply with UK regulations outlined in Approved Document B and BS 8214 can result in legal action against anyone deemed to be a ‘responsible person’ in the event of a fire.

What we offer
Detailed Fire Door Survey Reports
You’ll receive a full report with photographs, risk ratings and clear recommendations for any remedial works. The report(s) can be accessed through online systems such as Bolster or PlanRadar creating professional, consistent and compliant reports that can be recorded along the Golden Thread.
By having your reports digitally stored, all recorded works can be generated as a CSV and PDF, including your floor plan and pin locations for added clarity.
Furthermore, Global can utilise Matterport’s advanced technology, creating digital twins of your buildings and providing the complete approach to fire safety by enabling proactive and predictive fire safety management.
Do I require a Fire Compartmentation Survey?
Fire door surveys can be undertaken as an independent service or in conjunction with a compartmentation survey. A fire compartmentation survey provides a detailed assessment of a building’s fire-resistant barriers, including walls, floors, ceilings, and penetrations, to ensure they effectively prevent the spread of fire and smoke. There are several types of compartmentation surveys:
- Observational
- Sectional – Visual
- Sectional – Intrusive (Type 4 FRA)
- Full – Visual
- Full – Intrusive (TYpe 4 FRA)

Observational
Non-intrusive visual inspection of compartment walls, soffits, voids, cavities on the means of escape, protected stair cores and high-risk areas. Global will identify all life cycle, maintenance, and latent defects with a technical written and photographed report.
Please note a quotation cannot be populated from this report.

Sectional – Visual
Access is required to typically 3 floors. Inspection to sections of the floor template (not the whole floor), across several levels (not all levels). This will allow us to make an informed decision on the condition of the compartmentation, using the balance of probability.
It will identify breaches in compartmentation walls/soffits, voids, cavities within the means of escape, protected stair cores and high-risk areas. Information is captured in specialist software for reporting. Floor layout drawings will be required free of charge.
Budget costs can be produced on a pro-rata basis from this report.

Sectional – Intrusive (Type 4 FRA)
As per Sectional – Visual but previously inaccessible areas will be inspected by drilling a small hole through the substrate to enable an inspection by use of a borescope. A larger core drill may then be employed for opening up soffits, voids and cavities as required. Holes will be temporarily filled/covered on completion.
Budget costs can be produced from this report but with further increased detail.

Full – Visual
Access required to all parts of the building where all breaches in compartmentation walls, voids, cavities in the means of escape, protected stair cores, high risk and sleeping areas are identified. Information is captured in specialist software for reporting. Floor layout drawings will be required.
A full remediation cost can be produced from the information detailed in this report with the exclusion of any inaccessible areas.

Full – Intrusive (TYpe 4 FRA)
As per Full – Visual but previously inaccessible areas will be inspected by use of borescope and/or opening up soffits, voids and cavities as required.
A full remediation cost can be produced from the information detailed in this report.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is a legal requirement that a business ensures that fire doors are correctly installed and adequately maintained at all times, so they are fit for purpose. A fire door survey will document all your fire doors, keeping a record of inspections and remedial works to make sure your building is fully complaint and safe for occupants.
A fire door survey cost is dependent on several factors, including the number of doors and buildings. We have a team of estimators who can provide you with a detailed quote. Get in touch today for a free no-obligation quote. If you have any buildings of the drawings with locations of the fire doors a more detailed and quicker quote can be prepared.
The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 made it a legal requirement from 23 January 2023 for responsible persons for all multi-occupied residential buildings in England with storeys over 11 metres in height to:
- Undertake quarterly checks of all fire doors (including self-closing devices) in the communal areas.
- Undertake, on a best endeavour basis, annual checks of all flat entrance doors (including self-closing devices) that lead onto a building’s communal areas.
Once a fire door survey has been conducted, there will be detailed notes and images. The surveyor will write some recommendations and remedial work actions that will need to be completed to make the fire door compliant. Failure to complete any corrections can result in fines, closures and, in the event of a fire, damage to a building or even a loss of life
Fire door surveys need to be completed by a competent person(s). All Global’s Passive fire door surveyors have Level 3 Fire Door Inspection Qualifications and vast experience of surveying different buildings and sectors.
